Drone Workshop at SUTD
DRONE WORKSHOP AT SUTD
16 AJCians and 6 staff attended a drone workshop at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) from the 18th to 20th January 2017. Professor Foon Shaohui from the Engineering Product Development Pillar in SUTD, together with his students, conducted the programme which spanned three full days.
Participants were grouped into groups of three from the start to facilitate discussion throughout the learning process. The programme began with the theory of flight, which included Physics principles. Participants were told that there would be two challenges on the last day of the workshop to see which team could best manoeuvre the drones.
Participants learnt how to use the CAD software to design the drone body, which was then used to allow for the laser cutting and 3D printing of the drone components. They then learnt how to assemble the various components of the drone, and picked up the programming skills needed to input the correct flight parameters before flying the drones.
On the last day of the workshop, participants learnt how to fly the drones using both a flight simulator and the actual flying of the drones. The experience was one-of-a-kind as students and staff alike discovered their hidden talents in constructing and flying drones.
