Subjects Offered 

At Anderson Junior College, all our students offer the following:

  • H1 General Paper (GP)
  • H1 Project Work (PW)
  • (3 H2 + 1 H1) or (4 H2) content-based subjects, where at least one H1 or H2 subject is from a contrasting discipline
  • H1 Mother Tongue Language (MTL), which need not be taken by those who have obtained a D7 or better in Higher MTL at the GCE ‘O’ level

H3 Subjects

  • Mathematics (MOE)

In addition, the following H3 research programmes are offered:

  • NUS Science Research Programme (SRP)
  • NTU Nanyang Research Programme (NRP)
  • NUS-MOE Humanities and Social Sciences Research (HSSR) 

For a student to offer a H3 subject, he/she must have obtained the following at the JC1 Promotional Examination: 

  •  Must have obtained a Grade ‘A’ in the pre-requisite H2 subject(s). 
  •  Must have obtained at least a Grade ‘B’ in at least 2 other H2 subjects. 
  •  Must pass all other subjects.

Other customised subject combinations may be possible if there is sufficient interest among JC1 students.

4 H2 Subject Combinations

Students who wish to take a 4 H2 subject combination should meet the following requirements:

  1. L1R5 (raw) of 10 or better
  2. B3 or better for English 
  3.  Distinction for relevant H2 subjects* (where applicable) 

* Relevant subjects to be taken as pure subjects at ‘O’ level. If not, considered on case-by-case basis.

Conditions for Subjects

H2 Mathematics 

B3 or better for Additional Mathematics. Condition may be waived for Science students as H2 Math is a relevant subject for Science-related courses in the university.


H2 Further Mathematics

  • Offering H2 Mathematics
  • Obtained A1 for both Elementary Mathematics and Additional Mathematics 
  • Students have to take and satisfy the criteria for a qualifying test

H1/H2 Physics, Chemistry & Biology 

Obtained C6 or better for relevant subject


H2 Mother Tongue Language and Literature (CLL/MLL/TLL)

Obtained B3 or better in Higher MT or A2 or above in MTL


H1 General Studies in Chinese (H1 GSC)

Obtained C6 or better in Higher Chinese OR A2 or above in Chinese


Chinese Language ’B’ (CLB) 

Offered CLB OR obtained D7 or worse in CL
